WHEN a “super blood moon” appeared in the sky above Miami in September, the glamorous city’s streets were flooded with water.Luxury condos were suddenly awash, Porsches were submerged, landscaped gardens with expensive palm trees drowned and wealthy families were forced to wade through foul-smelling rivers. This wasn’t a one-off: it’s a scary portent of the future for South Florida’s most fashionable residents.A super moon looks up to 14 per cent larger than usual because of its proximity to Earth. The gigantic, scarlet super blood moon is a rare astrological phenomenon that occurs when a regular super moon turns a reddish hue because of the moon passing directly behind the earth, into its shadow.A series of very high “king tides” caused by the ominous moon left Miami’s vibrant, beach-loving residents watching the sea edge up their driveways and into their elegant living rooms. And the crisis is only set to get worse.

Chalo Dildar Chalo Chaand Ke Paar Chalo.... and so on goes the immortal lines from the legendary song featured in the Raajkumar -Meera Kumari starrer Pakeezah which released in 1972. As children we have grown up hearing stories about Chanda Mama and Indian mythology features Chandra as one of devs (gods). Such is our fascination with the moon that we worked extra hard and sent one of the cheapest missions ever to the majestic satellite in Chandrayaan and now are planning a manned mission up there too.

China will launch a mission to land on the dark side of the moon in two years' time, state media reported, in what will be a first for humanity. The moon's far hemisphere is never directly visible from Earth and while it has been photographed, with the first images appearing in 1959, it has never been explored. China's Chang'e-4 probe—named for the goddess of the moon in Chinese mythology—will be sent to it in 2018, the official Xinhua news agency reported. "The Chang'e-4's lander and rover will make a soft landing on the back side of the moon, and will carry out in-place and patrolling surveys," it cited the country's lunar exploration chief Liu Jizhong as saying on Thursday. Beijing sees its military-run, multi-billion-dollar space programme as a marker of its rising global stature and mounting technical expertise, as well as evidence of the ruling Communist Party's success in transforming the once poverty-stricken nation. But for the most part it has so far replicated activities that the US and Soviet Union pioneered decades ago. "The implementation of the Chang'e-4 mission has helped our country make the leap from following to leading in the field of lunar exploration," Liu added.

The collision between Earth and the "planetary embryo" known as Theia that took place roughly 100 million years after our planet formed was most likely responsible for forming the moon, according to new research published Friday in the journal Science. While the high-velocity impact between Earth and Theia has been well documented by scientists, previous studies had suggested that the two objects simply side-swiped one another. However, in their new paper, Edward Young, a professor of geochemistry and cosmochemistry at UCLA, and his colleagues have found new evidence suggesting that it was a head-on impact. Young’s team analyzed seven rocks collected from the moon and brought back to Earth by the astronauts of the Apollo 12, 15, and 17 missions, as well as six volcanic rocks from the planet’s mantle, and conducted a chemical analysis and comparison of each set of samples. They found no distinguishable difference between the oxygen isotopes between the Earth and moon rocks. The findings contradict a 2014 German study that the lunar rocks would have a unique ratio of oxygen isotopes, different from those on Earth. The discovery suggests that a glancing collision between Earth and Theia was unlikely, as such an impact would have caused the moon to have been made primarily of material from Theia that had a non-Earth-like chemical composition.

When the moon is high in the sky, it creates bulges in the planet's atmosphere that creates imperceptible changes in the amount of rain that falls below. New University of Washington research to be published in Geophysical Research Letters shows that the lunar forces affect the amount of rain - though very slightly. "As far as I know, this is the first study to convincingly connect the tidal force of the moon with rainfall," said corresponding author Tsubasa Kohyama, a UW doctoral student in atmospheric sciences. Kohyama was studying atmospheric waves when he noticed a slight oscillation in the air pressure. He and co-author John (Michael) Wallace, a UW professor of atmospheric sciences, spent two years tracking down the phenomenon. Air pressure changes linked to the phases of the moon were first detected in 1847,and temperature in 1932, in ground-based observations. An earlier paper by the UW researchers used a global grid of data to confirm that air pressure on the surface definitely varies with the phases of the moon. "When the moon is overhead or underfoot, the air pressure is higher," Kohyama said.

PARANORMAL investigators have been asked to investigate a bizarre photograph said to have been taken during yesterday's solar eclipse. The image shows a silhouetted moon with what looks like its own mini-me moon orbiting it.The surprising picture, which has a figure standing in the foreground, has been sent to global UFO investigation group the Mutaul UFO Network (MUFON) based in the US for investigation. The unnamed man who reported it to MUFON claimed it was taken at Tanjung Pandan on Billiton Island, Indonesia, by a female friend, who is also anonymous. But Express.co.uk can report how the alleged sighting as more a UF-NO than UFO and a blatant hoax.We sent the image to seasoned UFO hoax exposer Italian Scott Brando, who runs website Ufoofinterest.org, and has spent years researching video and photographs of anomalies that have been touted as the real deal or proof of aliens online.

Cue conspiracy theorists bleating how ‘we never went in the first place…’ A moon base could be operational by 2022, according to an ambitious plan set out by NASA experts made public on Thursday. The base would cost around $10 billion, a fairly small amount compared to the near $170 billion in today’s prices it cost the US government to finance the Apollo missions that sent 12 men into space. The $10 billion projection includes returning to the lunar surface and establishing the first extra-terrestrial human outpost.

SEOUL/DAEJEON - Despite several early failures, Korean engineers and scientists are poised to leap into space, hoping to realise the country's long-cherished goal of reaching the moon.Following a late start, Asia's fourth-largest economy went through many challenges to develop its own launch vehicle, which is key to the nation's space project. The efforts have paid off as Korea is now on the threshold of a new era in space technology, with its first lunar exploration planned for 2020. It is a massive project that could propel the country's ambitions to go deeper into space.Korea joined the global space club with the successful launch of a satellite into orbit in 2013. It plans to send to the moon a lander that can carry an artificial-intelligence rover programmed to explore rare minerals on its surface. A robotic orbiter designed to circle the moon will be sent on a foreign rocket in advance. This is scheduled for 2018.The robotic orbiter will find a feasible spot for a lunar landing and also transmit data collected by the lander afterwards, engineers say.

Is it possible that NASA bombed the moon in order to destroy an Alien base? According to many people around the world, the answer is a big YES. According to a set of images and alleged reports, there are alien structures on the surface of the moon, and NASA launched a 2-ton kinetic weapon to destroy them, despite international laws clearly prohibiting it. One of the greatest enigmas regarding UFOs and Alien life is whether governments and Space Agencies around the world are covering up such information. While seeing UFO’s on Earth and videos from space isn’t something new, in the last couple of years, a lot of attention has been drawn to Earth’s moon. There, on the surface of Earth’s natural surface lay numerous ‘Alien’ Bases. The fact that many believe NASA and governments around the world have covered up information on these alien bases has become a widely accepted ideology in the last decade among ufologists and believers. One of the most interesting things about the moon, which involves a ‘typical’ cover-up is the LCROSS mission by NASA where they literally BOMBED the surface of the moon for alleged ‘Scientific’ purposes. Despite the fact that it strictly prohibited, NASA released a ‘Centaur’ kinetic weapon which ultimately impacted the moon.
