Hi Pen;
It's not the corporations using those places for dumping. It's the people running the landfills. Do you know who's in charge of that in Australia? Are you ready to hear who's in charge of it here? It's the freaking Mafia! It's said they went legitimate, but in reality you know it's just another scam. What they can recycle, they do, as there is money to be had there. The organic stuff they bury. And everything else they ship to the ........... designated area.
So who does it there? Do you know? I have no idea how the Mafia managed to get a hold of it here, but they did, and it's nothing but a huge racket. They charge a fortune when you have garbage the sanitation trucks won't carry that you have to haul yourself. Everybody thinks it's pretty nifty, because no garbage is stored locally, but they have to haul it completely across the state to Spokane to recycle what they can, even though the place where they take the stuff they can't recycle to is the Tacoma docks, 70 miles away. I imagine they sell the organic waste to the farmers, over in the Palouse ............. it's a huge joke in my opinion. But this is the first time I've learned where one of the places are that they take the "toxic waste" to in order to get rid of it though, and this sounds like a major travesty.
I would say that something needs to be done, but you know the PTB are bound to be aware of this. Trouble is, does this fall on the people delivering the waste, or the local government over there? Are the people delivering it responsible for burying it where it won't contaminate anything? Or is their government failing to do so because they can pocket the few extra cents as profit? Or are they supposed to drain the liquids, sterilize the solids, and burn the toxins?
This sounds like a huge mess that needs sorted out to me, but it also sounds like an environmentalist racket as well. I mean, what was wrong with the old system, where we dealt with all of those things locally? Why do we have to ship it halfway around the planet? Do you see where I'm coming from? This all started when the NIMBYs and environmentalists were complaining about the landfills. When was that? Twenty five years or so back? Looks like a fine solution, does it not? Just pack it up, and ship it somewhere else. What a joke!
This is all a result of our disposable world. When I was a kid, we dumped our garbage in a ravine about a quarter mile from the house. There was so little of it, that you could never tell. Some table scraps, paper, stuff like that. No cans to speak of, as we did all of our own canning. Soda and beer bottles had such a high deposit, that it was well worth it to return them. So there's your solution. But answer me this. Would it be too much work for the spoiled people of today? What on Earth was wrong with the way we used to do things? Yeah, back when we were healthy, right?
Once one starts picking this apart? Have you ever seen such a complicated mess? All just to dump a little garbage. Does it make you wonder how they came up with a rationale to justify all of this? How much fuel do you think they might waste, just hauling it around? Take a wild guess. After all, is that not how our governments go about planning and budgeting all of this? Is it any wonder that everybody is broke? In my opinion, we need to figure a way to get everybody writing about this.
