I was looking at a few of these designs:

In them you can see what I think the bigger companies envision. Something on the order of a flying wing, which can produce lift on its own, in conjunction with a neutrally buoyant craft which is roughly weightless, even when loaded. Consider the wing issues of the A380. There are bigger planes ................ Boeing's B-52, Lockheed's C-5, as well as the giant Russian An-225 Cossack built by Anatov. But those are all military aircraft, with highly reinforced bodies and wings (and they still have wing problems). I doubt very much that the public would accept the rougher ride that comes with such a design.

Tourists are not in the same rush business types are, so airships are probably the answer for more passengers. A few are nearly ready:
